Full Biography

Susan Buck Sutton is Emerita Associate Vice President of International Affairs & Emerita Chancellor's Professor of Anthropology at Indiana University, and the former chief international officer for Bryn Mawr College. At IU, she oversaw the internationalization of its urban campus through a philosophy of international dialogue and collaboration, honored with the 2009 Andrew Heiskell Award from the Institute of International Education (IIE) and the 2011 Senator Paul Simon Award from NAFSA. Sutton is now a consultant in global learning, strategy, and collaboration in higher education, and has carried out projects for the American Council on Education, IIE, U.S. Japan Bridging Foundation, and other organizations. She has been President of the Association of International Education Administrators, Chair of NAFSA’s International Education Leadership unit, and served on Boards for the International Association of Universities, American Anthropological Association, and Modern Greek Studies Association. Sutton has given numerous presentations and workshops, both in the U.S. and internationally, on the changing nature of academic internationalization, academic partnerships, curriculum internationalization, and international service learning. Sutton has published five books and 70+ articles on international education and the anthropology of modern Greece.
