Gerald Maki enjoys serving as a Professor of English and Coordinator of Global Education at Ivy Tech Community College, Indianapolis. He completed doctoral coursework at Purdue University with a primary in Contemporary Literature and secondaries in Theory and Cultural Studies, Post-Colonial Literature, and Film.
Prof. Maki is also a United Nations Global Diplomacy Fellow and proud alumnus of The International Center's James T. Morris Global Leadership Series. His educational experience includes a fellowship at the University of Bonn, Germany studying globalization and E.U. integration, as well as an award from the American Councils for International Education to develop international virtual exchanges. Prof. Maki has received numerous recognitions – including multiple teaching awards from Purdue University, Ivy Tech Indianapolis’ 2023 President’s Award for Excellence in Instruction, and NCSPOD, the oldest professional development association in North America, for his work in faculty and organizational development.
Prof. Maki has presented at over 40 conferences and published multiple academic essays and book chapters. In additional to providing meaningful global learning opportunities for students, Gerald is a passionate advocate for trauma-informed teaching and learning practices.
